just sharing this hitting quote from Gibson-Graham in The End of Capitalism

“In the eyes of some of our social science and Marxist associates we have in fact
undergone a transmutation from theory saints (faithful and devoted to the truth of
the world) to theory sluts (good time girls who think around): if you're not with the
theory you love, love the theory you're with.”

What do you all think about Angela Davis' statement that we can't eradicate racism without eradicating capitalism? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhh3CMkngkY

hard agree. capitalism was honed in the colonies where ruthless warlords like Clive of India (of curry powder fame) or Edward Law (top dog in the East India Company) used people, like slaves. i mean they had slaves, they didn't want to get rid of chattel slavery. And the history of capitalism is built on the development of racism. it'd be too hard to untangle capitalism and colonialism, i reckon lets just move on to something better. And like all the materials are there for something post capital. Like in Kerry's article we just gotta name it so we can stop talking about capitalism so much

oK two thing i've been working on:

one is this adaptation of a model by some ecologists. The idea is that ecosystems have a number of stable states depending on the characteristics of the ecosystem. Image

I reckon it's relevant to going post-cap because if we say that social systems are natural systems in a similar way to ecosystems then we can also start to map out the "perturbations" that could cause us to more easily escape capitalism basin.

The other is more a riff off mark fischer and the capitalist realism stuff about stringing together value to alleviate anxiety and depression. I've been doing a lot of beading and i'm making something for the meet up, on gather. i was about to call it a gathering, is that weird?

I wanna go back to definitions to answer this one. If we are talking about the idea that different races of humans exist, and the more Anglo the people are, as an ideology made up in early capitalism to justify intense oppression and splitting poor whites from finding solidarity with people of colour, then yes, capitalism and racism are inextricably linked and getting rid of one would likely get rid of or at least greatly disrupt the other. There seem to be a lot of centre leftys who think you can get rid of racism but keep capitalism, using things like affirmative action. But to me that is just absorbing more people into those living comfortably off capitalism, without dealing with all of the people (and the rest of nature) suffering because of it.

Tribalism (you look different or I dont know you therefore you are bad/enemy/scary) and colonialism have been around for a lot longer than capitalism. Capitalism has sharpened them, but I don't think getting rid of capitalism would necessarily get rid of tribalism and colonialism. Thoughts?
